ROAD DISTRICT Highway Commissioner

Bikers, Runners & In-line Skaters

Outdoor activities can be a great deal of fun if you obey the rules and use common sense, especially in traffic.

Illinois law states that pedestrians, including runners, power walkers and skaters, must use sidewalks where provided. When sidewalks are not available, pedestrians must use the shoulder of the roadway, against the flow of traffic, and stay as far from the edge of the road as practical. Skaters should wear complete protective gear.

What about bicycles?

A cyclist must obey traffic laws including, stopping at stop signs and red lights, using turn signals, and giving way to pedestrians.
