2010 Northfield Township Recycling Program
In November of 2008, in an effort to promote recycling throughout Northfield Township, Highway Commissioner Pete Amarantos and Supervisor Jill Brickman implemented a recycling program open to all Township residents and businesses. The response to this program was extremely positive and the decision was made to continue the program and hold additional events throughout the year. Many residents were amazed at the ease in which they were able to drop off recyclables.
We are partnering with other organizations to build on the successful events we’ve already held. Glenkirk’s Opportunity Secure Data Destruction provides our on-site shredding service and we will work with volunteers from other organizations in the spring. By working together, we are offering a user-friendly service to our residents.
Township residents and businesses may take advantage of this free recycling program; the following items will be accepted at the Township facility: computer hardware, household paint (oil and latex) **, engine oil, hydraulic oil, transmission fluid, cell phones/pagers, metal, batteries (all types), tires, bikes & toys (usable condition), eyeglasses, clothing (usable condition), art supplies, electronics, flags, ink/toner cartridges, styrofoam, televisions, ttheraputic equipment (canes, crutches, standers, walkers, wheelchairs) as well as paper shredding (limited to 3 bags/boxes per person).
**Because of the financial condition of the State of Illinois, the Illinois Environmental Protection Agency has cut funding for the paint recycling program.
We have made a decision to continue to fund this much needed program with Road District resources.
Because of our limited funds, we have to restrict paint drop-offs to 10 one gallon cans or 2 five gallon buckets for each event.
We appreciate your cooperation.
